The Mission
The mission of the Association is to advance a greater understanding of Asian/Pacific cultural issues affecting occupational therapy practice, and to support career opportunities and advancements in occupational therapy by people of Asian/Pacific heritage.
The History
Dr. Chana Hiranaka and Prof. K. Kshepakaran, co-founded the association shortly after the 1994 Can-Am Occupational Therapy Conference held in Boston. It was initially incorporated in the state of Illinois as the Association of Asian/ Pacific Occupational Therapists in America.
The Purpose
The purpose of the organization shall be:
- Serve as a liaison to the American Occupational Therapy Association and other organizations on issues affecting occupational therapy practice related to Asian/Pacific cultures.
- Promote scholarly activities and research on Asian/Pacific cultural issues affecting occupational therapy practice
- Promote and support learning and scholarship.
- Provide guidance to occupational therapy practitioners immigrating from Asian/Pacific countries to help them to better transition and integrate into the North American occupational therapy practice.
- Promote occupational therapy education and scholarly exchange among Asian/Pacific countries and the United States of America

It is a non-profit organization established for charitable purposes, education and to support scientific advancement in the field of occupational therapy.
